Troops rescues 59 women, children in Borno
(Nigeria) The Nigerian Army said it had cleared two villages
occupied by Boko Haram insurgents and rescued 59 abducted persons in
anti-terrorist operation in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.
Col. Tukur Gusau, Deputy Director, Army Public Relations
made the statement on Thursday in Maiduguri while briefing newsmen.
``Troops of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army conducted
offensive operation in Konduga local government area Borno on Wednesday. The
troops identified two suspected Boko Haram terrorists camps in a place called
Kashimbiri and Warmure all in Konduga LGA,'' Gusau said.
He said that dozens of suspected Boko Haram terrorists were
killed during the operation.
``During the operation a number of terrorists were killed. We
also recovered a land rover jeep and a tipper lorry used by the terrorists for
their nefarious activities,'' Gusau said.
He said that the army also rescued 59 persons in captivity
of the terrorists.
``Similarly, we also rescued 59 civilians in captivity of
the terrorists. They are made up of 25 children, 29 women and five elderly
men,'' Gusau said, adding that the military had shut down the camps.
``There was no casualty on the military or any of our
equipment. We have since closed down the camps,'' he said.
The deputy director said that the rescued persons would be
handed over to the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, for rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, some of the rescued persons have commended the
military for the operation.
Mallam Modu Goni an elderly person rescued in Warmure told
newsmen that the terrorists had brutalised him before the arrival of the
military.
``The Boko Haram terrorists abducted us while farming in my
village. They use my cloth to tie my hands and took me along with them before
the timely arrival of the military which led to our rescue,'' Goni said.
