Nuclear deal will strengthen Iran regional position -----president Rouhani
Implementation of agreement on nuclear programme and lifting
of sanctions will improve Iran’s position in the region, but will not be
detrimental to other countries, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani told a
governmental session on Wednesday.
"Without any doubt, the implementation of the agreement
[on Tehran’s nuclear program] will strengthen Iran’s influence in the region,
but it will happen not to the detriment of neighbouring countries,"
Rouhani said, reports Tass.
"This is a misconception that Iran will meddle into
other countries’ internal affairs if it becomes stronger. We are confident that
interference into other countries’ affairs is unacceptable and that every
nation should solve their destiny on their own," Rouhani stressed.
"Of course, we will defend the oppressed and will
counter the terrorist threat in the region and in the world, and we will use
our power for that," he said.
The president also stressed that the "unprecedented
resolution" adopted by UN Security Council on Iran’s nuclear program
granted the Joint Action Plan the status of international law, finally secured
Tehran’s right for a peaceful nuclear program and "destroyed the regime of
unfair sanctions."
"Some people say that the deal on nuclear program
increases to one year the period required for Iran to make an atomic bomb. It
is amusing to hear such things because Iran never possessed any weapons of mass
destruction. It contradicts the fatwa — religious ruling — issued by the
Supreme Leader of Iran," Rouhani said.
On Monday, the UN Security Council has unanimously adopted
the resolution in support of the agreement on Iran’s nuclear program. According
to the document, all international sanctions will be lifted from Iran in 10
years if Tehran fulfills all conditions agreed with P5+1 group of international
mediators (five permanent members of UN Security Council and Germany) in
Vienna.
The resolution also envisages easing sanctions against Iran
after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) submits a report confirming
Tehran’s compliance with the terms of the deal. The UN Security Council also
reinforced the mechanism of returning all restrictions in case Iran violates
the terms of the agreement.
