NDLEA arrests 14 suspected drug dealers in Bayelsa

(Nigeria) The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has apprehended 14 suspected drug dealers in Bayelsa State.
The suspects comprised of four women and 10 men.
NDLEA said that 116.33 kilogrammes of various type of drugs comprising of cannabis sativa, heroin and cocaine were recovered from the suspects.
The command said the suspects were arrested this month across the state capital.
The Spokesman for the Command, Ikenna Osakwe, said 40-year-old Blessing Friday, one of the suspects, was arrested along the East-West Road while ferrying 113.9kilogrammes of compressed cannabis in an unmarked petroleum tanker.
Osakwe, a Principal Staff Officer in the Public Affairs unit of the NDLEA said another suspect -Mercy Bright, 26, was arrested with various quantities of heroin and cannabis.
Also, Williams Wunukune, male, 57, a.k.a "Baba Eko " was arrested while in possession of 1.1kilogrammes of cannabis, he said.
The Command said that it would always be vigilant and poised to arrest illegal drug dealers and traffickers in the state.
The NDLEA advised residents of the state to be vigilant and monitor persons and activities in their communities.
Osakwe said, "There should be no hesitation in reporting illegal drug activities to the State Command for prompt action.’’
He recalled that the command had in June arrested 74 drug suspects for peddling various prohibited drug substances in the state.
The command said they include 64 males and 10 females adding that the suspects would soon be prosecuted.
The Commander, NDLEA, Bayelsa state, Mrs Josephine Obi, said the hard drugs recovered from suspects in June are : 74 grammes of cocaine, 10.8 grammes of heroine, 134.82 kilogrammes of cannabis, and 1.837 kilogrammes of Psychotropic substance, all totaling 136.742 kilogrammes.
She alleged that Bayelsa Was a drug consumption state as these drugs were not produced there, neither was the state a transit route to any other state.
Obi said, "Narcotics, drugs and psychotropic substances which have severe negative physical, psychological and social consequences, have become popular among our youths in particular and other aged groups in general". racting
