Court remands 23-year old man for alleged rape

(Nigeria) A Gudu Upper Area Court, on Wednesday remanded 23-year-old Kelvin Eboh of Apo New Site, FCT Abuja, in prison custody for alleged rape.
The prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Edet, told the court that the mother of the girl, Mrs. Philomina Njom of Jesus Avenue, Phigba Sama, Ado, FCT, reported the matter to Apo Police station.
Edet said that on July 17, the accused conspired with three others at large and abducted Miss Blessing Okonkwo while she was visiting her friend Ndidi.
He said that Eboh and his co-conspirators took Blessing to a room at Wasa Estate, Apo and forcefully had sex with her without her consent.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 97, 397, 273 and 275 of the penal code.
The presiding judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody after he denied the charge preferred against him.
Kagarko also ordered that Eboh’s conspirators, who were at large, should be arrested and arraigned in court.
The judge adjourned the case till September 7 for further hearing.
