US desire to dominate threatens global security-----Russian lawmaker

NATO military exercise in Poland
The United States’ desire to control and dominate other countries destroys foundations of global collective security, a senior Russian lawmaker said on Monday.
According to Tass, Irina Yarovaya, a member of the ruling United Russia party and head of the State Duma committee for security and fighting corruption, was commenting on statements made by United States Defense Secretary Ash Carter that the United States and its North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, NATO allies were preparing militarily for the prospect that their rift with Russia could outlast President Vladimir Putin.
The Pentagon chief, speaking to reporters on Sunday at the start of a week-long trip to Europe, accused Russia of putting NATO allies in eastern Europe on edge and triggering a series of military moves by the NATO alliance.
"Such statements by the Pentagon give the international community grounds for thinking that US striving for external control and dominance destroys foundations of global collective security and fundamental principles of interstate cooperation," Yarovaya told journalists.
She stressed that Russia consistently maintained its position of respect for sovereignty and equitable partnership among all countries.
"It seems that the United States doesn’t feel comfortable with this as it traditionally never feels comfortable with Russia’s sovereignty and the fact that its hopes of talking to Russia from a position of strength and dictate, neglecting our national interests, are not destined to be realised," the lawmaker added.
