Teenager remanded in prison over friend’s death

(Nigeria) A Yaba Chief Magistrates' Court, Lagos, on Wednesday remanded a 19-year-old man, Anosike Oluchukwu, at Ikoyi Prisons over alleged murder of his 15-year-old friend, Chinonso Monyasah.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Soladoye, said the accused should be kept behind bars pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions.
The accused was not taken by the court.
A resident of No.7, Padola Kantagaro St., Abule-Egba, Lagos, the accused is facing a charge of murder.
Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Godwin Anyanwu, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 10 at 2.00 p.m., No.1, Akande St., Iju-Ishaga, Lagos.
He said the accused and the deceased, who were friends, had a misunderstanding over a chair.
``The accused got angry because the deceased insulted him and he hit him on the ribs. The deceased started vomiting blood and immediately slumped. He was rushed to a nearby hospital by the accused where he was confirmed dead," Anyanwu said.
Accordig to him, the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
The offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The chief magistrate adjourned the case till Aug.3 for mention
