3,000 Syrians killed by IS in past year ----Report

Islamic State, IS militants have killed as many as 3,027 people since it announced its "caliphate" in Syria a year ago, a monitor group reported.
According to Xinhua, the toll include 1,787 civilians the IS militants killed in several Syrian cities, while the rest were government soldiers and members of rival rebel groups, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights on Sunday.
In the past year, the IS has kidnapped over 4,000 civilians from different provinces, said the London-based Observatory, which says it relies on a network of activists on the ground inside Syria.
The Obseervatory said the IS now controls 50 percent of Syria, with a presence in nine Syrian provinces, mainly Raqqa, the de facto capital of the IS, and areas in Deir al-Zour, Hasaka, Hama, Aleppo, and the countryside of Damascus.
Most of the country's oil and gas fields have also fallen to IS militants throughout the year, except for the two fields that are still under government control in the central province of Homs and two others under Kurdish fighters' control in northern Syria.

NBC has no powers to impose fine on broadcast stations --Court

(Nigeria) The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has been restrained by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, from imposing fines on broadcast stations in the country. Trial judge in the matter, Justice James Omotosho also set aside the N500,000 fines imposed on March 1, 2019, on each of 45 broadcast stations. The court made the orders in its judgment a suit by the Incorporated Trustees of Media Rights Agenda, MRA, which had sued the NBC. Justice Omotosho held that the NBC, not being a court of law, had no power to impose sanctions as punishment on broadcast stations. The court further held that the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, which gives the commission the power to impose sanction, is in conflict with Section 6 of the Constitution that vested judicial power in the court of law.
