2 explosions rock Agip facilities in Rivers state

Two explosions have rocked a facility belonging to Agip oil company in Ebocha community in Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The first explosion occurred at 10p.m., on Sunday, while effort was on to put out the fire another, one blast occurred today and fire at the facilities is still blazing, with the oil company with a history of polluting the Niger Delta, yet to put out the fire.
Agip facilities have repeatedly caught fire and devastated the oil producing communities and in many cases, fresh waters, ponds and farms have been polluted by oil spills from obsolete facilities, while Agip, like many other oil multi nations, has  blamed sabotage for the spills and fires.
On Monday, some residents were sighted relocating to neighbouring areas for that the fire might get out of control.
Chairman of Ndoni council, Mr Mr Augustine Ahiamadu, blamed the explosions on obsolete equipment being used by the oil company, thus dismissing fears that it was an act of sabotage.
He said he had not been formerly briefed of the cause of the fire but he suspected it would be traced to mechanical fault arising from obsolete facility.
