We will arrest foreign currency imported into Nigeria by APC----PDP

(Nigeria) The Democratic Party, PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, PDPPCO, has cautioned the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, that any foreign currency imported by the party (APC) and its leaders would be seized.
PDP also denied allegation by the APC spokesperson, Alhaji Lai Muhammed there was a plot to implicate his party with a huge amount of dollars being ferried into Nigeria.
Director, Media and Publicity of PDPPCO in a statement in Abuja on Thursday, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode, said "Once again, the APC has come up with a litany of lies and falsehood. It is clear that whatever affliction has befallen them, it is getting worse by the day, it is irreversible and it is terminal. They are a party that manufactures one lie every minute and seek to sell it to the Nigerian public.
“If they are planning to smuggle large amounts of cash from outside the country because they are broke, they should just say so.
“Whatever the case, if they violate the laws of the land, by trying to smuggle in the proceed of ill-gotten gains from foreign land, we shall meet them at the borders of our nation, we shall confiscate the cash and we shall prosecute them fully, according to the law.
"We do not need to frame anybody up because we know who the real criminals are. May God judge them for their lies."

NBC has no powers to impose fine on broadcast stations --Court

(Nigeria) The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has been restrained by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, from imposing fines on broadcast stations in the country. Trial judge in the matter, Justice James Omotosho also set aside the N500,000 fines imposed on March 1, 2019, on each of 45 broadcast stations. The court made the orders in its judgment a suit by the Incorporated Trustees of Media Rights Agenda, MRA, which had sued the NBC. Justice Omotosho held that the NBC, not being a court of law, had no power to impose sanctions as punishment on broadcast stations. The court further held that the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, which gives the commission the power to impose sanction, is in conflict with Section 6 of the Constitution that vested judicial power in the court of law.
