Rivers elections credible, reflect wishes of the people ----- PDP

(Nigeria) The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said that the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state on Saturday was credible and reflects the overwhelming wish of the people of Rivers State to support President Goodluck Jonathan and candidates of the party.
State Chairman of the PDP, Mr Felix Obuah in a statement in Port Harcourt on Sunday, said "Rivers State is a traditional PDP state and if the elections are conducted a million times, the PDP will win here. Was the All Progressives Congress, APC expecting Rivers people to vote for another Presidential candidate other than President Jonathan? That must be a wishful thinking," he said.
He condemned in strong terms the alleged resort to violence and falsehood by members of the APC and vehemently denies allegations of violence levelled against members of the PDP.
On the call by the APC for the cancellation of the polls in Rivers State, the PDP said there was nothing in the conduct of the elections that will warrant such call, describing the call as the behaviour of bad losers.
The party said allegations of violence against its members were diversionary and orchestrated by the APC to disrupt the election, when it became clear to members of the APC in Rivers State that PDP would win.
On the other hand, he alleged that the APC has been investing in violence in the state. “A few examples will show. In Gokana Local Government Area  of the state, armed members of the APC in Bera, home town of a serving senator and APC Governorship Candidate Campaign Director General, acting on the instructions of their leaders, went to the home of one of the PDP stalwarts and the former PDP governorship aspirant, Dumbari Ben-Dimkpa, also from Bera and burnt down his house. They also set ablaze all his cars, went to his filling station, also in Bera and destroyed all the pumps and other property there.
“A Caretaker committee chairmen in company of his APC boys also unleashed mayhem in the area. In Ogbakiri, a serving commissioner with armed APC boys shot sporadically and attempted to hijacked the election materials but they met with resistance,” he added.
