PDP commends GDI for backing Jonathan, Wike
(Nigeria) The Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP, in Rivers State, Pastor Monwan Etete has praised the Grassroots
Development Initiative, GID, for successfully staging the one-million-Man-march
in Port Harcourt.
Addressing the crowd at the party’s State Secretariat on Aba
Road where the exercise was terminated, Pastor Etete applauded the group for
backing the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan. He also thanked
them for their unflinching support for the election of Chief Nyesom Wike as governor
of Rivers State.
Pastor Etete further lauded GDI for the enormous work done
so far in collaborating with the PDP in educating people at the grassroots to
vote wisely.
He expressed delight that the PDP would remain eternally
grateful to the group, following the role it played to restore the party in the
state during the trying period.
The Deputy Chairman described the one million man march as a
demonstration of faith, commitment and resilience, adding that the message was
clear that PDP has shown it was physically and psychologically ready for the
election.
He said, “On behalf of our Chairman, members and the teeming
supporters of the PDP in Rivers State, we commend the GDI for taking the bull
by the horns. It is no mean feat to
mobilize millions of Rivers people in the face of the scorching sun, to dance rejoicing
from Polo Club all the way to the party Secretariat in Aba Road.”
Pastor Etete also appealed to them to ensure that people at
the grassroots are thoroughly educated on how to append their thumb prints
where the umbrella stands at the ballot paper, which is the logo of the PDP.
He said it was imperative for these majorly illiterate class
to be so educated to vote properly so as to avoid the voiding of votes.
He said the party had background report that people at the
grassroots were eagerly waiting to vote en-masse for President Jonathan in Saturday election, all hands should be on
deck to find tune their knowledge of the voting processes.
Earlier in his speech, the President General of GDI, Bright
Amaewhule congratulated all participants for enduring the distance despite the
hot weather, noting that the exercise showed the readiness of the PDP to
liberate the state from the shackles of misrule, no thanks to the
administration of Governor Amaechi and the All Progressives Congress, APC.
“PDP and GDI are not association of weaklings. We are strong, bold and courageous. As you can see today, we have demonstrated
that we are ready to go any distance even at the expense of our lives. Even the elders of the party took part in
this march and we have come to tell outgoing Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Dr
Peterside Dakuku, APC state guber candidate and Gen Muhammadu Buhari, APC
presidential candidate that we are ready to match action to action.
Amaewhule restated that the PDP would sweep the polls in
Saturday’s election and called on the opposition APC to ‘quietly throw in the
towel to avoid humiliation’.
Also speaking, the Secretary-General of the group, Mr.
Samuel Nwanosike said the march was symbolic as it showed oneness of mind, body
and spirit.
“You can see we are happy and warming up for a new
Government House, a Government House that Rivers people will call their own, a
government that would manage their resources properly, a government that would
give our children (born and unborn) hope and future they can dream of. That is
what gave up courage to move from Polo Club down to the Party Secretariat” he
enthused.
He urged all Rivers people to vote for President Jonathan
and all candidates of the PDP for the continued peace, progress and unity of
Nigeria.
