Latest Ebola patient dies in Liberia

Liberia's hopes of being declared Ebola-free suffered a fresh blow when a patient died, according to state radio reports Saturday.
Ruth Tugbeh, 44, was confirmed positive for the Ebola virus on March 20, frustrating Liberia's goal of being declared Ebola-free after going more than 20 days without a single case, reports dpa.
According to LBS radio, Tugbeh died about 0900 GMT Friday. The patient was undergoing treatment at the Monrovia Medical Unit, which is managed by the US Public Health Service.
She had been transferred to the unit from an Ebola treatment unit run by Doctors Without Borders near Monrovia a few days previously.
Doctor Francis Nah Kateh had told journalists at a Ministry of Information Ebola briefing that the patient had been in stable condition after her diagnosis.
The World Health Organisation, WHO, requires a country to show that no new case has been reported for 42 days before officially declaring it Ebola-free because the incubation period of the virus is 21 days.
Liberia is one of the countries worst hit by an Ebola epidemic with 9,526 reported infections and 4,264 deaths before Friday's fatality.
The number of people infected with Ebola in the past 15 months was 24,701 worldwide, of whom 10,194 died, according to the WHO.
