APC angry with military successes against Boko Haram----PDP

(Nigeria) The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, PDPPCO, has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC of being unhappy with the successes recorded by military and President Goodluck Jonathan led Federal Government over Boko Haram insurgents.
Director of Media and Publicity of PDPPCO, Chief Femi Fani-Kayodo, in a statement on Thursday, said “This is to bring to the notice of the good people of Nigerians that the APC is now engaged in a last minute effort to hire foreign writers to discredit and disparage the government of President Goodluck Jonathan and the achievements he has so far recorded as we march towards March 28 presidential election.
"What is really giving the APC a headache is their failed expectation that President Jonathan’s government would be unable to subdue the deadly activities of the Boko Haram insurgents in the north-eastern part of the federation.
“The APC had field days attacking the government on the issue of insurgency, hardly aware of the determination by our Presidential candidate, President Jonathan to end the problem once and for all.
“So far, the Nigerian military, in collaboration with the West African Forces, have been recording unprecedented success in the campaign against Boko Haram insurgents.
“The military had turned up surprises in their anti-Boko Haram campaigns so far with ability to recover all the territories hitherto lost to the insurgents in Adamawa and Yobe with only a couple or thereabout communities more to recover in Borno state.
“It has always been the stock in trade of the APC to run to the international media for support after failing to convince Nigerians that it has the credibility and capacity to withstand our presidential candidate in the coming election.
“Past efforts by the APC to use the international media against our President had failed and will continue to collapse like a pack of cards.
“This latest move by the APC is coming against the backdrop of the general disenchantment against them and their leaders caused by the broadcast TV documentary-“Unamsking the Real Tinubu”- which exposed how their national leader, Bola Tinubu, used his office as governor and the office of his successor, Babatunde Fasola, to amass monumental wealth in Lagos.
“Until the TV documentary, the opposition had field days denigrating the PDP, using the mantra of corruption as a tool. By now, Nigerians are properly schooled on which party holds the banner of corruption in the most sordid and absurd manner.
“To cover up for the shame of being de-robed and stripped naked on acts of corruption, the APC spin doctors suddenly realised that turning to foreign hack writers is a good deal for diverting the attention on the real issue on the ground just to save face.
“We say no way to this. We will continue to expose APC and all the wrong values the party stands for ahead of the presidential election for Nigerians to know the difference.
“For the sake of emphasis, it is because the table is turning against APC that the leaders are acting desperately to stop the imminent defeat of General Muhammadu Buhari in the forthcoming presidential election.
“It is shameful and mindboggling that up till now, members of APC are yet to address the issue of corruption leveled against Tinubu and the state governors who have been financing their activities the way talk tongue in cheeks about our party on matters of corruption.
“We can confidently conclude that the people of Lagos are already fed up with the Emperor of Bourdillion and are prepared to put an end to his proxy reign in the April 11 governorship elections.
“We are convinced that with a new government in Lagos after the elections, the Lagos commonwealth will be returned to the people while the Emperor would be made to account for crass greed, self-enrichment and inordinate ambition for stupendous wealth.
“Tinubu, we reckon, is already equating himself to the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.  But Nigerians know that the two are poles apart in comparison. Awolowo, Nigerians know, stood for the common interest of his people.
“Tinubu, all through, has been standing for his personal interest. Awolowo as a leader was shrewd, while he excelled in skills of economic management. He was a leader who believed in egalitarian principle which exemplified the greatest good for the greatest number.  Tinubu on the other hand is an absolutist with all Nihilistic tendencies.”

NBC has no powers to impose fine on broadcast stations --Court

(Nigeria) The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has been restrained by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, from imposing fines on broadcast stations in the country. Trial judge in the matter, Justice James Omotosho also set aside the N500,000 fines imposed on March 1, 2019, on each of 45 broadcast stations. The court made the orders in its judgment a suit by the Incorporated Trustees of Media Rights Agenda, MRA, which had sued the NBC. Justice Omotosho held that the NBC, not being a court of law, had no power to impose sanctions as punishment on broadcast stations. The court further held that the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, which gives the commission the power to impose sanction, is in conflict with Section 6 of the Constitution that vested judicial power in the court of law.
