The Afghan Supreme Court sentenced a police officer to 20 years in prison for killing a German photojournalist in 2014, a judicial official said Sunday.
The officer identified as Naqibullah opened fire on Associated Press photographer Anja Niedringhaus and reporter Kathy Gannon during the April election campaign, reports dpa.
Niedringhaus was killed and Canadian reporter Gannon was wounded in the incident in the eastern province of Khost.
A court official who requested anonymity said Naqibullah was initially sentenced to death, but the court commuted the sentence to 20 years in prison.
Naqibullah said during his primary confession that he shot the journalists out of revenge for United States airstrikes on his village in Parwan province that killed several civilians less than a month before.
