We’ll Use education to curb Area boys syndrome---- Agbaje

(Nigeria) The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje has promised to use education as a tool to fight the area boys syndrome in the state.
According to him, this in view of the fact that with good education, the war against social vices can be won.
Agbaje however said the current system of education in the state would have to be reviewed to achieve desired results.
He hinged this on the fact that primary and vocational education in the state are allocated a paltry percentage in the state’s education budget.
The PDP governorship candidate stressed that this is despite the pride of place primary education occupies globally, as the foundation of formal education.
According to a statement by Agbaje’s Directorate of Media and Publicity, the PDP Candidate spoke at a governorship debate recently organized by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, LCCI, at the weekend.
He said the development cannot be divorced from the failure of most students from Lagos state who wrote the West African School Certificate, WASC, last year.
Continuing, Agbaje said vocational education was also suffering in the state, leading to a situation where youths who dropped out of secondary schools end up on the streets, disturbing the peace of the state.
He however assured the captains of industry that a PDP administration under him would  give primary and vocational education  the necessary attention.
He hinged this on the fact that every endeavor needs some form of education to tap its full potentials.
Agbaje who promised to take the state to the level of Mumbai and Sao polo in the next four years, vowed to make Lagos a state that truly works through the provision of basic infrastructure across the state.
Meanwhile, the PDP governorship candidate has promised to restore power to the sleepy town of Epe, just as he assured the people of potable water.
Speaking during a town hall meeting, he lamented that Epe had been without power for five years.
According to him, the whole essence of government is the welfare of the people, promising to fill the void left by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, across the state.
Agbaje who lamented the takeover of several lands in the area promised to return lands illegally acquired and pay adequate compensation to land owners who were shortchanged.
