Pakistani Shiites mosque bombing death toll rises to 58

Pakistani Shiite Muslims were in mourning Saturday for the victims of a mosque bombing that killed at least 58 people in the southern province of Sindh.
About 400 worshippers were preparing to offer Friday prayers in Shikarpur, about 500 kilometers north of the port city of Karachi, when a explosion ripped through the mosque, reports dpa.
Senior police officer Abdul Qudus said more than 50 worshippers were injured.
Shiite authorities said the death toll was higher than the official figure because many of the dead were taken home by relatives, instead of taking them to hospitals.
Police collected a severed head and body parts along with other materials to be tested to determine the exact nature of bombing.
Shiites called for three days of "peaceful protests."
Most of the victims were being buried Saturday as the provincial government declared a high security alert.
Senior Shiite leader Amin Shaheedi called it a "massacre" and demanded the government prevent the killing of members of the minority community.
Shiites make up about 20 per cent of Pakistan's predominantly Sunni population of 180 million.
It was the second attack on Shiites this month. A suicide bomber on January 10 killed eight people at a mosque in the city of Rawalpindi.
Jundullah, a militant group that has declared allegiance to the Islamic State movement, denied any involvement in Friday's bombing
