Israel planning 430 new homes in West Bank-----Activists

Israel has issued tenders for the construction of 430 new West Bank housing units, peace activists said Friday, just weeks before the country heads to elections.
Palestinians are strongly opposed to settlement construction on the occupied West Bank and consider the Jewish settlements illegal, reports dpa.
Most of the planned units are in the southern West Bank, including about a quarter around the Hebron area. This is the second time Israel is trying to sell these units.
Daniel Seidemann, head of the Terrestrial Jerusalem group, described the tenders as the opening of the "settlement floodgates" prior to the elections.
He said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is certain have known about the tenders being issued.
"It is a pre-election grab to establish facts on the ground made by the Netanyahu government," activist group Peace Now said in a statement.
The Palestine Liberation Organization said Israel was being granted impunity by the international community and called for a ban on products from the settlements.
"We call upon the international community to stop treating Israel as a state above the law," according to a PLO statement from chief negotiator Saeb Erekat.
Netanyahu was invited by the Republican Party's leadership in the United States Congress to address legislators in March, just before the elections, sparking a row with Democrats and the White House.
