I'll make ‎ Badagry the industrial hub of W-Africa -- Agbaje

(Nigeria) The of governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Lagos State, Mr Jimi Agbaje, on Saturday promised to make Badagry the industrial hub of West Africa.
Agbaje, who said this at a rally in Badagry, lamented that the axis has been short-changed in terms of development.
"I observed that Badagry has been shortchanged over the years in Lagos state. I want you all to know that government is for all, Badagry inclusive. There is need to look at the teeming youths because many of them are without jobs." he said.
Agbaje said that the only way the youths could have jobs was by creating industries in Badagry.
" We know that Badagry has been placed in a position where it can become a hub for exploits."
He said he was overwhelmed by the crowd that turned out to receive him and promised not to let them down if elected.
Earlier, Agbaje, his running mate, Alhaja Safu Abdulkareem and other party leaders paid a courtesy visit to the Akran of Badagry, Wheno Aholu Menu Toyi 1.
The monarch urged the governorship candidate not to renege on his promises if elected into office.

NBC has no powers to impose fine on broadcast stations --Court

(Nigeria) The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has been restrained by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, from imposing fines on broadcast stations in the country. Trial judge in the matter, Justice James Omotosho also set aside the N500,000 fines imposed on March 1, 2019, on each of 45 broadcast stations. The court made the orders in its judgment a suit by the Incorporated Trustees of Media Rights Agenda, MRA, which had sued the NBC. Justice Omotosho held that the NBC, not being a court of law, had no power to impose sanctions as punishment on broadcast stations. The court further held that the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, which gives the commission the power to impose sanction, is in conflict with Section 6 of the Constitution that vested judicial power in the court of law.
