Court remands 2 charged with counterfeiting $198,000

(Nigeria) An Abuja Federal High Court on Thursday remanded Sunday Kogi and Gideon James, charged with counterfeiting $198,000.
Trial judge, Justice Abdul Kafarati, who remanded the accused, fixed February 17 to hear their application for bail after hearing the accused and prosecution counsel’s submissions.
Kafarati also fixed March 18 and 19 to begin the trial of the accused persons.
The accused, both residents of the FCT, were brought to the court on December  4, 2014 by the EFCC.
Mr Samuel Ogwuegbulam, the prosecution counsel, told the court on Thursday that he was ready to go on with the trial with witnesses and exhibits.
However, Mr Ifeanyi Okoli, counsel to the accused, prayed the court for a short adjournment, saying that he had just taken over the case file and needed time to study it.
Kafarati granted the request depite being opposed by the prosecutor.
The accused persons were arrested by the anti-graft agency and arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit financial crime.
The prosecution said that offence contravened the provisions of Sections 6 (1) (b); 5 (1) (b) and 4 (1) of the Counterfeit Currency Special Provisions Act, Cap C35 (2004).
