Your dreams will come to pass under Wike, PDP tells Ogoni people

(Nigeria) The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Rivers State, has said that  the political dream of the Ogoni people can only be realised under its administration, with of Mr. Nyesom Wike as governor.
The party commended the people for their cohesiveness, resilience and globally applauded civilized manner they have continued to ventilate their grievances and dissatisfaction of the unfortunate situation over the years, and also assured them of prompt and adequate attention to their plights in the days ahead, particularly from 2015 as the PDP takes over government in Rivers State, and Wike as governor.
The Rivers State PDP regrets the pains the Ogonis have been made to suffer in the hands of non Niger Delta national leaders of the country in the years past, the Military Heads of State and their lieutenants, who served in the state as Military Administrators, and under the outgoing governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, and appealled to Ogoni people to reject the All Progressives Congress, APC.
"This is one way Ogoni people can stop the injustices and subjugation of their rights by those who are only interested in their endowed resources, but not in our wellbeing and development," it said in a statement.
"Our greatest pain, as a responsible party that believes in fair play, justice, equity, and respect of human rights, including economic, social, political and environmental rights of our people, is the truncation of our well thought out plans and policies aimed at providing succor to the Ogoni people in Rivers State. These lofty plans and policies were shattered on the altar of selfishness and greed by a crop of politicians led by the Rivers State outgoing Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, who wasted the PDP mandate for the benefit of few unpatriotic Nigerians, who are mainly leaders of the APC.
"The PDP strongly assures the good people of Ogoni that enough is enough of these recklessness, betrayal, lies, use and dump attitude and deception by leaders of the current APC administration in Rivers State.
We, again unequivocally, condemn the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and his cronies, some of who are Ogonis, who feigned and claimed to have left our great party (the PDP) for the APC over the alleged non implementation of the famous United Nations Environmental Programme, UNEP report recommendations on Ogoni.
"Our compassion on the people of Ogoni stems from the fact that the outgoing governor and his APC folks were only playing to the gallery, making false claims and caricature of the plights of the people.
The PDP has heard the cries of the Ogoni people and will demonstrably commit itself to ending the alleged political marginalization.
"We, would therefore, appeal to the Ogonis to continue to support the PDP and our governorship candidate, Barr. Nyesom Wike, to reclaim the State from the tyrannical pharaohs in 2015, to usher in a responsible and development-sensitive government that would ensure the realization of the quest of the Ogoni for political power."

NBC has no powers to impose fine on broadcast stations --Court

(Nigeria) The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has been restrained by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, from imposing fines on broadcast stations in the country. Trial judge in the matter, Justice James Omotosho also set aside the N500,000 fines imposed on March 1, 2019, on each of 45 broadcast stations. The court made the orders in its judgment a suit by the Incorporated Trustees of Media Rights Agenda, MRA, which had sued the NBC. Justice Omotosho held that the NBC, not being a court of law, had no power to impose sanctions as punishment on broadcast stations. The court further held that the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, which gives the commission the power to impose sanction, is in conflict with Section 6 of the Constitution that vested judicial power in the court of law.
