New draft resolution on Palestine submitted to UNSC

A group of Arab states led by Jordan submitted to the United Nations Security Council on Monday a new draft resolution on the creation of the Palestinian State that may be put to the vote before the New Year’s Eve.
Earlier Monday, Palestinian officials said the draft resolution they intend to submit is not new, but rather a revision of the resolution submitted to the council by Jordan earlier this month, reports Tass.
The revised resolution sharpens the Palestinian stance on Jerusalem, future borders and Palestinian refugees.
“The voting may be possibly held on Tuesday or Wednesday (New York time),” a representative of a UN Security Council member state, who spoke on condition of anonymity. According to him, the document has already been printed.
Last week, diplomats of the UNSC member states expressed doubt that the voting will be held before the year end.
However, after a closed-door meeting on Monday, a group of Arab countries in the UN made a decision to initiate the draft resolution consideration as soon as possible.
The renewed draft resolution gives 12 months for the comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict that envisages the creation of a “sovereign and viable” State of Palestine.
The document demands complete cessation of all Israeli settlement activity on the Palestinian territory, occupied since 1967, including in East Jerusalem.
The resolution will be adopted if nine of the 15 UN Security Council members support it.

NBC has no powers to impose fine on broadcast stations --Court

(Nigeria) The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has been restrained by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, from imposing fines on broadcast stations in the country. Trial judge in the matter, Justice James Omotosho also set aside the N500,000 fines imposed on March 1, 2019, on each of 45 broadcast stations. The court made the orders in its judgment a suit by the Incorporated Trustees of Media Rights Agenda, MRA, which had sued the NBC. Justice Omotosho held that the NBC, not being a court of law, had no power to impose sanctions as punishment on broadcast stations. The court further held that the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, which gives the commission the power to impose sanction, is in conflict with Section 6 of the Constitution that vested judicial power in the court of law.
