Court remands suspected drug trafficking

(Nigeria) Justice Mohammed Yunusa of a Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday ordered the remand of a 32-year old man, Ijoganu Edache, charged with drug trafficking at Ikoyi Prison, Lagos.
The accused was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, on a one-count charge.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Yunusa, however, ordered that the accused be remanded in custody pending ruling on his bail application.
He adjourned the case to December 31 for ruling.
The Prosecutor, Mr Lambert Nor, had earlier told the court that the accused committed the offence on October 29.
He said that the accused was arrested at the arrival hall of the Murtala Mohammed Airport by officers of the NDLEA during inward clearance of passengers on board a flight from brazil.
According to Nor, about 1.240 kg of Cocaine was found on the accused which he had concealed in a wrapper.
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 11 (a) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation, 2004.
The offence of drug trafficking can attract up to a term of life imprisonment if convicted.
