Court remands 4 suspected pipeline vandals

(Nigeria) Justice Mohammed Yunusa of a Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday ordered the remand, in the Ikoyi Prisons, of four men charged with vandalism and unlawful deal on petroleum products.
The accused are: Andrew Ishola, 35; Sunkanmi Aro, 27; Utuedor Michael, 27, and Oladele Agbo, 35.
According to the charge, the four are standing trial on a three-count charge.However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Following a bail application by their counsel, Mr McAnthony Akhariale, Yunusa admitted each of the accused to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
The judge ordered their remand in custody pending the perfection of their bail.
Yunusa adjourned the case to January 19 for substantive trial.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Raymond Akhane, told the court that the accused conspired to vandalise an oil pipeline and illegally deal on petroleum products sometime in November.
He said that they were apprehended by a team of policemen at the Majidun area of Ikorodu in Lagos, on a tip off.
According to the prosecutor, the accused tampered with the free flow of refined petroleum products through an oil pipeline in the locality, and engaged in illegal sale of the products.
Ahkane said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 3(1), 5 and 7 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, 2004.
