3000 APC members defect to PDP in Lagos

(Nigeria) About 3000 members of the All Progressives Congress, APC,  under the aegis of Justice Group on Wednesday, defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos.
 Leader of the group, Chief David Abidakun,  explained that they were being received in Lagos but for the entire South West.
"We are not counting the number of people here but our membership. We have a membership of over 70, 000 in the South West and all of us will join the PDP in our various states in the South West after the formal ceremony."
He said  that the group left the party for being marginalised in the APC, adding "We believe that the PDP is a place to be and so we have decided to be part of the winning team."
Receiving the decampees, the Lagos State deputy chairman of the party, Chief Sikiru Apena, promised them fair and same chances with existing members of the party.

NBC has no powers to impose fine on broadcast stations --Court

(Nigeria) The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has been restrained by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, from imposing fines on broadcast stations in the country. Trial judge in the matter, Justice James Omotosho also set aside the N500,000 fines imposed on March 1, 2019, on each of 45 broadcast stations. The court made the orders in its judgment a suit by the Incorporated Trustees of Media Rights Agenda, MRA, which had sued the NBC. Justice Omotosho held that the NBC, not being a court of law, had no power to impose sanctions as punishment on broadcast stations. The court further held that the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, which gives the commission the power to impose sanction, is in conflict with Section 6 of the Constitution that vested judicial power in the court of law.
