Self Donetsk republic urges UN to send peacekeepers

The parliament of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, DPR, called on Tuesday for convening the United Nations Security Council to consider plans of sending peacekeepers to the conflict zone, reports Tass.
“We are appealing to the international community to stop the humanitarian catastrophe and social genocide caused by the actions of the Ukrainian government,” the presidium of the DPR parliament, the People’s Council, said in a statement.
“We demand to convene an emergency session of the UN Security Council and consider the issue of intervention of a peacekeeping contingent involving representatives of the Russian Federation to control the compliance with the earlier reached agreements and resolving the humanitarian and social situation,” the statement reads.
A new UN human rights monitoring report released last week says “civilians have continued to be killed, unlawfully detained, tortured and to disappear in eastern Ukraine, and the number of internally displaced people has risen considerably despite the announcement of a ceasefire on 5 September.”
The number of internally displaced people (IDPs) has also sharply increased from 275,489 as of September 18 to 466,829 on November 19, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the report said.
