Ebola can't be contracted by eating egg - Poultry farmers

(Nigeria) Mr Lekan Odunsi, the Chairman, Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), Ogun chapter on Thursday said Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) could not be contracted through egg consumption.
Odunsi said this at a press conference with the theme, "Human impacts on egg consumption" to commemorate the 2014 World Egg Day in Abeokuta.
He said that in spite of the dangers associated with the consumption of some animals with regard to the dreaded virus, egg consumption was Ebola free.
``Egg consumption is very much free from Ebola, either cooked, boiled, fried or half cooked, our fear in eating bush meat and other forms of protein for the fear of Ebola does not include eggs," Odunsi said.
The PAN Chairman disclosed that new reports from the European Egg Commission (EEC) indicated that consumption of eggs for six weeks consecutively might reduce breast cancer in women by 44 per cent.
He lamented that the rate of egg consumption in Nigeria was low in spite of the numerous advantages of egg consumption. ``We are still far from the rate at which people consume eggs globally," he said.
