EU experts examine mass graves in Donetsk
Leaders of some European
non-governmental organisations have visited the recently discovered
burial places near eastern Ukraine's Donetsk, reports Itar-Tass.
They said they examined burial places at the Kommunar coalmine and
others on September 28. They also saw photographs taken at the sites
directly when buried bodies were discovered.
The group of representatives of non-governmental organizations and international experts said in a statement that after visiting the site on September 28, meeting with executive power officials and law-enforcement authorities of the Donetsk People’s Republic and questioning local residents and relatives of victims at the sites, they strongly condemned the facts of brutal massacre and gross violations of the international humanitarian law.
Human rights activists appealed to the United Nations Human Rights
Commissioner Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, European Council Commissioner for
Human Rights Nils Muiznieks, OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier,
international human rights organizations and media in various countries
to initiate an urgent investigation into the discovered facts of burial
of bodies near the city of Donetsk. An international commission must
immediately conduct an impartial and objective investigation, the human
rights activists said.
Everything must be done to bring those guilty to justice in accordance with the international law, they said in the statement.
