Environmental nuisance : Lagos agency siezes 35 rams
(Nigeria )
Officials of the Lagos State Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI, Brigade on Monday
impounded 35 rams, which they had taken from a makeshift selling point in Agege area of the state, reports NAN .
About 20 KAI officials had stormed the stall and took the
rams one after the other into their truck before they drove to their office,
Alausa.
Speaking on the issue, Mr Tunde Olusesi, Public Relations
Officer of the brigade, told
He said the traders were putting them up for sale on a road
setback, adding the site was not the right place to sell rams.
``The traders ignored earlier warnings not to sell rams in
that place, which is a road setback. That is not a ram market. We had no option
but to enforce the state’s environmental law to serve as deterrent for others
who might want to breach the law,`` he said.
Olusesi said the impounded rams would be released to the
traders after signing undertakings that they would not return to the location.
``The rams will be released only if the traders will assure
us they would not trade their animals on road setback. There are markets for
rams and I hope they will learn their lessons and move to the right place,`` he
said.
