UN calls for ceasefire in eastern Ukraine during humanitarian mission
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
on Thursday called for a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine for the duration
of the humanitarian mission in the region, reports Itar-Tass.
A UN spokesperson said this message would be delivered to the
Ukrainian authorities by UN Under-Secretary-General for Political
Affairs Jeffrey Feltman who is currently on a visit to Kiev.
Moscow asked the UN Security Council to adopt a statement calling for ceasefire in south-eastern Ukraine for the duration of the humanitarian mission there.
“We are urging the sides involved in the conflict to announce a ceasefire for the duration of this mission and asking the UN Security Council to adopt a relevant statement,” the Russian Foreign ministry said.
