Rivers PDP accuses Caretaker Chairmen of embezzling council funds

(Nigeria) The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, says the present crop of Caretaker Committee Chairmen across the state are only busy siphoning council funds without the slightest intention to embark on any developmental project.
Lamenting  the rate of illegal acquisition of property and lavish waste of council funds on meaningless ceremonies and sharing among these CTC chairmen, the party in a statement by Mr Jerry Needam, Special Adviser, Media to the state Chairman, Prince Felix Obuah on Tuesday,  said even in the face of this misnomer, Governor Rotimi Amaechi has made no effort to call them to order.
Concerned mainly to retain their loyalty, the party notes, Amaechi rather “than caution them, he is encouraging them by looking the other way while the councils are suffering rapid retardation in infrastructural development due to the reckless diversion of funds allocated for development and peoples’ welfare.”
The PDP wants the CTC chairmen not to forget that the monies they are wasting belong to tax-payers  and not Amaechi’s, stressing that at the appropriate time, they will account for all these monies.
“We wish once more, to enjoin Rivers people not to be deceived, provoked or lured by this unrestrained use of their resources as though they are personal property to mortgage their conscience but continue to hold firm to their faith and hope of a better tomorrow under a more purposeful and mass oriented administration not only at the councils but also at the State level,” the PDP warned.
