Chris Giwa emerges NFA new Board Chairman
(Nigeria )
A faction of the Nigeria Football Association, NFA, congress has elected Mr Chris
Giwa as the new Board Chairman of the association, alongside 11 others as board
members.
The congress, at the association’s General Assembly on Tuesday
in Abuja ,
elected the club proprietor following an election which had 29 of the 44 voting
members in attendance.
Giwa got 27 votes to defeat the board’s former First
Vice-Chairman, Mike Umeh who secured only two votes.
Obinna Ogba won the position of the First Vice-Chairman
after being elected unopposed, while Effiong Johnson retained his position on
the board.
He did so by retaining his position as Chairman of State FA
Chairmen after winning unopposed.
Yahaya Adama won the North Central zone slot with 26 votes,
while Sani Mohammed and Adamu Yahaya won the North East position with 27 and 28
votes respectively.
The North West
slots were won by Muazu Suleyman and Sherif Inuwa with 28 and 27 votes respectively,
while Felix Anyansi-Agwu won the South East slot with 28 votes.
The South-South slot went to Felix Agua with 27 votes, while
Deji Tinubu and Otunba Sunday won the South-West slots with 27 and 28 votes
respectively.
In his acceptance speech, Giwa promised that he and his
board members would lead the NFA and Nigerian football to a new height.
``I and my board members will make sure that we will lead
Nigerian football positively and for results, so that NFA will have a new face
and a good story to talk about,’’ he said.
The General Assembly had culminated in the elections, even
when it was not on the schedule, after a disagreement among the members.
The assembly was to deliberate on a roadmap to the elections
to be proposed by the board, whose tenure ended on Tuesday.
The elections were earlier slated for Tuesday, but various
events in July had led to the board asking for the elections to be moved
forward.
But, after the assembly was declared open by the Sports
Minister, Tammy Danagogo, and the house was called to order by the
association’s Secretary-General, Musa Amadu, events took a new turn.
This, coupled with the arrest earlier in the day of outgoing
NFA Chairman Aminu Maigari and Amadu, had led to some of the members leaving
the venue of the assembly.
