Nigeria’s Amalaha suspended for testing positive to drugs at CGames
The Commonwealth Games Federation, CGF, on Tuesday announced
the provisional suspension of Nigerian weightlifter, Chika Amalaha from the
ongoing 2014 Commonwealth Games for testing positive to drugs.
A statement by CGF’s Chief Executuve Officer, Mike Hooper,
said Amalaha had been issued with a notice of disclosure after returning an
adverse analytical finding from in-competition test.
`` The athlete’s ‘A sample’ was found to contain both
amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide, both prohibited as diuretics and masking
agents under class s5 of World Anti-Doping Agency, WADA’s Prohibited List’’,
it said.
It, however, said that Amalaha had pursued her right to have
her B sample tested, which would take place at the accredited laboratory in London on July 30.
Amalaha won the gold medal in the Women’s 53kg category on
July 25.
The 20th edition of the Games, which kicked off on July 23
in Glasgow , Scotland , will end on August 3.
