Teacher charged with defiling 7-year old girl

(Nigeria) The Police on Thursday arraigned a 38-year old teacher, Onuoha Kenneth, an Abuja Chief Magistrates' Court for allegedly defiling a seven-year old girl in the school.
Kenneth, of Lugbe, Abuja, was arraigned by the police before Chief Magistrate Hadiza Shagari on a one-count charge of gross indecency.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Lawole Ade, told the court that the matter was reported at the Lugbe Police Station by the mother of the victim.
Ade said the accused lured the girl into the school’s toilet and ordered her to remove her under wear.
``He inserted his finger into her vagina, bruising her in the process.’’
The prosecutor added that when the case was reported to the school authorities, they said the law should take its course on the accused.
``After investigation, we decided to prosecute him”, Ade said.
The offence, according to Ade, does not ordinarily attract bail, adding that it contravened Section 285 of the Penal Code.
Ade did not object to the bail application.
Chief Magistrate Shagari granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum.
One of the sureties, she said, must be a federal civil servant who must reside within the court's jurisdiction.
She adjourned the case till Aug. 20 for continuation of hearing.
