Pakistani arraigned for drug trafficking

(Nigeria) A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Tuesday remanded a Pakistani, Iftikhar Arslan, 18, in prison custody for allegedly trafficking 25.4 kilogrammes of heroin.
Arslan, who was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, is standing trial on a count charge of unlawful possession of narcotic drug.
The Prosecutor, Mr Emmanuel Vembe, told the court that the accused was allegedly caught with the drug on April 5 at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja- Lagos.
Vembe alleged that the accused was caught with the drug during the inward clearance of Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Lagos.
He said that the offence contravened Section 11 (a) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the accused in prison custody.
Trial judge, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, therefore remanded the accused in Ikoyi Prison and adjourned the case to September 26 for trial.
The accused could get life imprisonment if convicted.
