Death toll rises to 17 in South India building collapse

The death toll rose to 17 on Monday in the 11- storey building collapse in Chennai of Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, as the number of people trapped, remained unknown.
National Disaster Response Force, NDRF, on Monday said that 21 people have so far been rescued as rescue operations were still underway, reports Xinhua.

Report says at least 400 experts are on the ground and 10 teams from the NDRF, along with the police and the Fire and Rescue Services, working to remove debris and rescue the survivors.
``There is still hope to find survivors as there was a miraculous rescue on Monday morning. A woman was pulled out alive on Monday morning from the debris,’’ NDRF said.
However, report says the building collapsed following heavy rains.
The 11-storey apartment building was being constructed by a Madurai-based real estate company.
Six persons including the builder have been arrested.
Officials say rescue operations would not stop until all survivors are pulled out and all bodies are accounted for.
