2 men remanded for alleged rape

(Nigeria) A Gusau Chief Magistrate Court in Zamfara State on Tuesday remanded two men, Hamza Musa, 25, and Lawali Sarki, 18, in prison custody over an alleged case of conspiracy and rape.
The accused, both of Manau village, Bakura Local Government Area of Zamfara, are facing a two-count charge of raping a 12-year-old girl.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Daniel Longwal, told the court that on June 10, one Abubakar Koroso, of the same address, reported the case at the Bakura police station, Gusau.
Longwal said on June 7, while the complainant’s 12-year-old daughter was on her way home from market, the two accused persons conspired with two others, now at large, and abducted her.
He said that the accused persons took her to one Ali’s house where they kept and raped her for three days.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 97 and 283 of Penal Code.
The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
The chief magistrate, Alhaji Bello Kucheri, ordered that the accused persons be remanded in prison custody, and adjourned the case until July 7 for hearing.
