Union hails Oshiomhole on workers’ welfare
(Nigeria) National President of the Civil Service Union, Mr
Solomon Adelegan, has commended Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State for
enhancing the welfare of workers in the state.
This commendation was made by the National President of the
Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and
Recreational Services Employees, AUPCTRE, Adelegan, when he led the National
Executives of the Union on a courtesy visit to the governor, Tuesday.
He said: “For the first time in the history of this country,
a former president of the NLC is assuming executive position as Governor, not
only that, we took statistics state by state and the highest position given to
a unionist is maybe Special Adviser, but in Edo State, a former
General-Secretary is made a commissioner.
“Five, six years ago, we knew how Benin City used to be and
how you have transformed it. We are glad with the way you have been handling
workers’ welfare in Edo state, not only that, the Chairman of the NLC tells us
how you have been giving the union your support. The story of the NLC will not
be complete without the name of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole written in capital
letters.”
Responding, Oshiomhole charged the organised labour to
remain focused to realise its objective.
He said “Labour movement must remain as a school to produce
leaders. Government will come and go but the labour movement will forever
remain.”
He congratulated Adelegan on his victory in his Union’s
election, last year, and assured the Union Executives of his support.
According to him, “I remain grateful for the support so far
received from the labour movement in the state. Labour remains my primary
constituency and I’m proud of it,” he said.
