Lack of teachers hinders take-off of Almajiri School -----Nararawa SUBEB chairman
(Nigeria) The Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board,
SUBEB, on Tuesday said lack of teachers had stalled the take-off of some Almajiri
model schools in the state.
The Executive Chairman of the board, Malam Abdulkarim
Abdullahi, said this shortly after he visited some selected primary schools in
Laminga, Nasarawa Local Government Area.
He said that a committee had been constituted by the state
government to make necessary arrangements for the take-off of the Tsangaya
Model Day Primary School in Laminga.
“GovernorTanko Al-Makura and the Federal Government are
doing their best to improve on the standard of education in the state and the
country at large through their good education policies. You saw how this
Almajiri school was well equipped with facilities such as the computer and the
science laboratories.
"You also saw the sewing machines and other equipment
provided to train the Almajiris in different skills so that they can contribute
their quota to national development. The school has been established to provide
both western and Islamic education to the Almajiri’s and to train them in
different skills to be self reliant," Abdullahi said.
The chairman said that the school would soon be inaugurated,
and thanked the community for protecting the facilities against vandalism.
Abdullahi, however, deplored the poor quality of work done
by the contractor handling the LEA Primary School, Laminga project.
He advised the contractor to have a change of attitude, and
to complement government efforts in improving the standard of education.
Also speaking, Mr Salihu Ibrahim, the Education Secretary of
the council, appealed to the state government to recruit and deploy teachers to
the Almajiri school for it to take-off fully.
The Federal Government had in 2013 approved the
establishment of Almajiri model primary schools in the North to provide western
and Islamic education to the children, and discourage them from begging.
