Egypt president appoints Mahlab as new PM

Outgoing housing minister Ibrahim Mahlab was appointed Tuesday as Egypt's new prime minister after the resignation of the cabinet installed by the military following last year's overthrow of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.
Mahlab, a former member of deposed president Hosni Mubarak's National Democratic Party, told reporters he had been tasked by interim president Adly Mansour with forming the new government ahead of presidential polls due to be held this spring.
