Ban deplores brutal slaying in north-eastern Nigeria

United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, has condemned the brutal slaying of dozens of students at a college in north-eastern Nigeria and voiced the hope that the perpetrators would be swiftly brought to justice.
In a brief statement obtained on Wednesday, Ban extended his sincere condolences to the bereaved families.
He noted that he was deeply concerned about the increasing frequency and brutality of attacks against educational institutions in northern Nigeria.
He also reiterated that no objective can justify such violence.
According to media reports, at least 49 teenage boys died in the attack by unidentified gunmen on the Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, Yobe.
The region has been prone to attacks by Boko Haram sect who have in the past targeted civilians, including students and worshippers, politicians, members of government institutions and foreign nationals.
