8 killed as bus catches fire in western India

No fewer than eight passengers were killed after their bus collided with an oil tanker and caught fire in India's western state of Maharashtra on Wednesday, a news report said.
An agency report said firefighters and villagers put out the fire on the luxury bus on a highway in the Thane district, some 70 kilometres north of Mumbai.
It added that 11 injured passengers were taken to hospital.
Witnesses said the accident took place when the bus driver was attempting to overtake the oil tanker and rammed into the vehicle.
The report says India records the highest number of traffic fatalities in the world, adding that in October, 45 people were killed after a bus they were travelling in caught fire in southern India.
