Zimbabwe teacher arrested for allegedly sodomising 10 pupils

Police in northwest Zimbabwe arrested a 24-year-old primary school teacher, who is accused of repeatedly sodomising at least 10 male students, state media reported on Thursday.
The teacher of Longwe Primary School in Matabeleland North province was arrested after an 8-year-old boy reported to his parents that he was sexually abused.
As the investigation continued, more victims surfaced and accused the teacher of indecent act, the provincial police spokesman, Siphiwe Makonese, said.
According to the Herald newspaper, the teacher paid money to his victims to keep them silent.
The 8-year-old boy, now being treated at a local hospital, had severe injuries on his bottom, it added.
According to Zimbabwean law, non-consensual same-sex behaviour is viewed as aggravated assault, and can attract a maximum of life imprisonment if convicted.
