Police arraign man for battering wife to death

(Nigeria) After spending four years in prison custody for allegedly battering his wife to death, a commercial bus driver, Babatunde Gbolahan, was on Tuesday charged before a Lagos High Court at Igbosere.
Gbolahan, 37, who allegedly killed his wife, Yemisi, in 2009 during a brawl, is facing a charge of manslaughter.
The accused was brought before Justice Aishat Opesanwo on Tuesday following a legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions which established a prima facie case against him.
Gbolahan allegedly committed the offence on October 13, 2009 at No. 9, Olatunji St., Mushin at 7.40 p.m.
The prosecution said the accused had an argument with his wife which degenerated to a fight and was beaten to death with a belt.
The offence contravened Section 325 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2003.
Gbolahan, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The judge adjourned the case to December 2 to enable the prosecution to produce witnesses.
