(Nigeria) The paramount ruler of Esit Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Ubong Assam, was freed on Wednesday by his captors.
Assam was kidnapped on Tuesday by gunmen who took him to an unknown destination and demanded N150 million ransom.
The hoodlums later reduced the ransom to N50 million and gave one-week ultimatum for the money to be paid for his release.
A source, pleading anonymity, said the hoodlums collected N15 million as ransom to release the paramount ruler.
The source said the paramount ruler was in a sound and healthy state, adding that ``as I speak, I am with his family members.
``We are very happy to see our paramount ruler back in Esit Eket’’, the source said.
Mr John Patrick, the Police Public Relations Officer in Akwa Ibom, confirmed the release.
