Oshiomhole hails Army in fight against kidnapping

(Nigeria) Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has commended the Nigerian Army for its assistance to other security agencies in the fight against kidnapping and armed robbery in the state.
The Governor who stated this yesterday, when he received the General Officer Commanding the 2 Division of the Nigeria Army, Major General Ahmed Jubril in Government House said the Army had extended enormous support to the government in its fight against crime.
According to him, “this is an opportunity for me to, on behalf of the good people of Edo State, place on record our gratitude as a people and government for the enormous support which the Nigerian Army under your command has extended to us outside the normal call of military duties. If the DSS Director were here, he would narrate to you the amount of help that the 4 Brigade has rendered to them.
“Going by the role of the Army it is not your lot to be buffeted with internal policing, but because of the seriousness of the situation, we have all come to appreciate that the Army has had to complement the efforts of the Police and other security agencies in matters of internal security in the country.
“If we are feeling safe, it is no doubt as a result of the role of the men of the Brigade. I am also aware of one or two instances where soldiers have paid the supreme price when violent criminals attacked and the risk which these men are exposed to in order to keep our state safe.  We are appreciative”, he said.
He declared “our people have greater confidence when they see the military at check points and in Operation Thunderstorm, giving confidence that the Army is part of the state security. That has helped a lot”.
Oshomhole noted “we have parts of the state which have been described as very difficult to police and your men have been very helpful in identifying illegal refineries and putting them out of operation. With their efforts and for the first time in many years, the NNPC were able to pump oil from Warri Refinery to the Benin Deport without having to use trucks.
“We are appreciative of the role of the Nigeria Army in its bid to keep criminals in check across the length and breadth of Nigeria. We don’t need experts to tell us what could have been the situation if you had not been involved in fighting elements of insurgency. But for your intervention if you to retreat back to your conventional duties, this country would have easily become ungovernable”, he added.
The Governor assured that the jobs that the government is doing in all the barracks would be completed.
