USOSA Plans education summit for October

The President of USOSA, Kabir Nuhu, represented by the National Assistant Secretary, Salim Ibrahim, made the announcement at the inauguration of the BoT of FEGOCOOKOSA Endowment fund.
Recognizing that government alone cannot bear the burden of delivering on quality education alone, the Unity Schools Old Students Association will hold a one-day education summit in Abuja.
The revelation was made at the formal inauguration of the Board of Trustees to manage the N100 million Endowment Fund of the Federal Government College Okigwe Old Students in Association in Abuja on Thursday.
The President of USOSA, Kabir Nuhu, represented by the National Assistant Secretary, Salim Ibrahim, made the announcement at the inauguration of the BoT of FEGOCOOKOSA endowment fund.
Nuhu assured the association of the support and collaboration of the umbrella unity schools association in “this noble and worthy enterprise.”
Ibrahim disclosed that the summit, to be hosted at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel on October 24, is being facilitated by Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, the Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Human Rights Commission and Chairman of the BoT of FEGOCOOKOSA Endowment Fund and alumnus of FGC Okigwe.
The President of FEGOCOOKOSA, Engineer Okey Chikwendu, while inaugurating the seven-member BoT of the N100 million Endowment Fund under the chairmanship of Odinkalu, said it is in alignment with the mandate of the association’s Grand Patron and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that alumni associations are set up to give back to their schools.
He announced that Abubakar has since released N10 million of the first tranche of his N20 million endowment to the school.
Odinkalu assured members of the association that the Board will work assiduously towards impacting positively on the quality of education in FGC Okigwe.
He called on well-meaning alumni, corporate organisations and institutions, individuals and other stakeholders to key into the laudable initiative for the growth and development of every aspect of learning in the school.
He reminded that neither the Federal Government nor the State Governments/Local Governments can bear the huge cost of providing education, which he said has become a security imperative, in Nigeria.
The Board is saddled with the task of among others serving as Fund Managers for the Endowment Fund and supervising the utilization of the funds on approved projects.
Other members of the board are Ukagha Igwe, Macaulay Atasie, Tijani Lawal, Lilian Obiechina, Uzoma Oguike and Victor Akpan.
