DPR to withdraw licence of marketers who supply unlicenced outfits

(Nigeria) The Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, says  it will henceforth withdraw the licence of any  oil marketer who supplies  products to unlicenced filling stations across the country.
Mr Gbenga Koku, DPR’s Controller of  Operations, Lagos/Ogun,  gave the warning at the 2013 Annual General Meeting of the agency with stakeholders on Thursday in Lagos.
Koku said that the act was capable of distorting the country’s distribution chain and creating  room for the adulteration of petroleum products.
He appealed to operators to conform to the laws and regulations guiding petroleum products distribution in the country.
``We have severally warned marketers on this issue but sadly the practice is still on.
“It is our intension to deploy more stringent monitoring regime to bring this practice to an end,” he said.
He said DPR would continue to monitor the quality and quantity of products being received and loaded from the depots.
Koku  said DPR would soon sample products from depots’  storage tanks to ensure that unwholesome products were not allowed into circulation.
He told the operators to ensure that only accredited third part laboratories were engaged when recertifying imported products.
A  DPR official, he said, must witness the test while the product must be signed off by competent personnel in the laboratory.
Koku also said that the essence of the meeting was to exchange ideas on how to foster  good oil industry practice.
Mr Oliver Okparaojiako, DPR’s Head, Downstream Sector, said that an enforcement chain officer had been directed to monitor operators who flouts  the rules.

Okparaojiako urged owners of depots within Apapa axis to create truck parks to avoid unnecessary traffic jams on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.
