Police parade 44 suspects in Edo

(Nigeria) No fewer than 44 suspected criminals arrested for various offences by the Edo State Police Command, Wednesday in Benin City.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Foluso Adebanjo, who paraded the suspects, also assured the people of its commitment to prevent crime in the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Foluso Adebanjo, gave the assurance in Benin while parading 44 suspected criminals arrested in the state for various offences.
He said the command had fashioned out new strategies to prevent crime following the kidnapping of five teachers and three toddlers recently in Benin.
He said among the suspects arrested by the police were three youths who allegedly kidnapped three primary school teachers and collected N7 million ransom before setting them free.
Adebanjo said that a 24-year-old man, who allegedly defiled a four-year old girl in a private toilet on Dumez Road within Benin City was also among the suspects.
The Commissioner said that all the suspects would soon be charge to court as soon as investigation on the offences they committed were completed.
He said that the offences ranged from armed robbery, murder, pipeline vandalism and possession of illicit drugs among others.
He said that 15 locally-made guns and 678 live cartridges were recovered from the suspects.
Adebanjo said four of the suspects were handed-over to the office of the Assistant Inspector-General of police zone five for further investigation.
