Nigeria repatriates 22,000 illegal immigrants -- Minister

(Nigeria) The Minister of Interior, Mr Abba Moro, said on Friday that 22,000 illegal immigrants were repatriated  in the last six months.
Moro said this in  an interview with News Agency of Nigeria in Dutse, Jigawa State.
According to him,  the  various arrests made during many crises in the country, revealed that some foreigners were among the perpetrators.
``We mobilised immigration officers from various commands to deploy to vulnerable borders to prevent entry of illegal immigrants,” he said.
The minister stated that his ministry had concluded plan to provide 11 armoured patrol vehicles to be used along  the borders in addition to  purchasing  some technologies that would help in monitoring activities along  the borders.
He said  the ministry had also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China Machinery Corporation in Beijing on the  provision of electronic equipment  for use along  the borders.
The minister said that plan was underway to construct about 84 plazas in all identified border posts across the country.
Moro explained that  the illegal entry of immigrants would be curtailed by the time all the measures  were in place.
