Court dissolves 5-year-old marriage for battery

(Nigeria) An Enugu Customary Court on Tuesday dissolved a five-year-old marriage between Raphael Oko and Loveth Oko, both of  Dunukofia Local Government Area in Anambra State.
The court dissolved the marriage following the couple's statement that they were tired of the union.
Loveth told the court that since their wedding in March 2008, Raphael abandoned her and their five-year-old child, Chukwuka.
She said the husband had not been providing money for the upkeep of the family.
She also said that Raphael had left her with several scares and pains on her body following consistent beating, adding that she no longer had interest in staying with him.
The Chairman of the panel, Mr Felix Agu, dissolved the marriage and granted Loveth the custody of the child.
Agu said that Raphael should pay N10,000 to Loveth every month for the upkeep of the child.
He also directed Rapheal to pay N2,000 for failing to appear in court on the judgement day.
